What is the difference between a skilled caregiver and a personal caregiver?

Skilled Caregiver: Skilled caregivers are nursing associates or professionals registered with the Bermuda Nursing Council, having completed an approved educational training program. They are equipped to provide both medical and personal care, including:
- Hands-on care for frail or bedridden individuals.
- Assistance with bathing, dressing, toileting, and mobility, such as transferring from a chair to a bed.
- Health monitoring, observing and responding to changes in the individual's condition.
- Performing simple wound care tasks, such as dressing changes, though not for complex wounds.
- They often offer a higher level of care due to their formal training and medical expertise.

Personal Caregiver: A personal caregiver typically does not have formal medical training but provides non-medical assistance. This includes:
- Offering companionship through conversations and recreational activities.
- Providing prompting, cueing, and minimal hands-on assistance with daily activities like bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, eating, and walking for individuals who are non-frail and not medically complex.
- Handling household tasks, such as changing bed linens, light housekeeping, meal preparation, and trash disposal.
- Providing transportation for errands, appointments, or social activities.

How do I know if my loved one needs home care services?

Look for signs like difficulty with daily tasks (bathing, dressing, or cooking), increased forgetfulness, isolation or loneliness, mobility issues, or recent health complications. If they are struggling with independence but want to stay at home, home care may be the right option.

Are home care services customizable?

Yes, we tailor our care plans to meet the specific needs of each individual, from a few hours of daily assistance to 24/7 care. Services can include personal care, companionship, housekeeping, and more specialized care depending on what’s needed.

How quickly can care be arranged?

We understand the urgency of care needs and can often arrange services within 24 to 48 hours, depending on your location and specific requirements.

Is home care covered by insurance or Futurecare?

FutureCare and HIP does cover certain home care services. To be eligible, policyholders must have had their policy for at least one year and be up to date on their premiums.
